We encourage all of our students to be involved in co-curricular activities and offer a diverse range of opportunities for our students to participate in, ranging from sporting teams through to instrumental lessons and public speaking. The many activities available make it easy for students to find something that they enjoy participating in.
Our annual Art Exhibition is a highly anticipated event on the school calendar. The Performing Arts Centre is converted into a gallery with the creative works of students placed on display. Held at the beginning of term 4, we invite you to come along and join us. Opening night is a great opportunity for students, teachers, parents and the wider community to get together to celebrate the work of our talented students.
Debating fosters teamwork, excellent communication skills and an ability to think critically and creatively.
Mullauna College has had a long and proud history of involvement in debating at the inter-school level. For over 25 years, students from Years 9 -12 have competed in all grades in the Debaters' Association of Victoria competition. A number of teams reach the finals each year and individual speakers have been awarded region and state Best Speaker awards.
Our College offers a range of leadership programs to allow students to make a positive contribution both to Mullauna and the wider community. Leadership positions include College Captain, House Captain, Performing Arts Captain, Visual Arts Captain and Environment Captain. These programs enable students to develop skills in public speaking, collaboration and project management. The College community takes pride in those who accept the challenge and responsibility of leadership roles.
Mullauna College delivers an excellent instrumental music program for students across all year levels. In addition to teaching students to play their particular instrument, students have the opportunity to collaborate and perform with other students in an array of ensembles and bands such as the Wind Symphony and the Stage Band. A variety of events are held throughout the year, including soirees and themed concerts. Involvement in the music program develops teamwork, organisational skills and self-discipline.
Battle of the Houses is held each year in Term 2. Staff and students from each of the four college houses sing, dance and perform to a medley of songs based around a selected theme. Students also have the opportunity to showcase their talents in school productions and plays.
Mullauna College believes that it is important to develop a healthy body along with a healthy mind. Our College has a long and successful tradition of competing in sport programs at the district, zone and state levels. There are opportunities to represent the College in swimming, athletics and cross-country, as well as in team sports ranging from netball, hockey and baseball through to table tennis, rugby and soccer. Students are encouraged to participate to the best of their ability and in doing so develop skills such as teamwork, fair play and motivation.
At the College, all Year 7-9 students participate in a comprehensive Sports program. Each year students are exposed to four different sporting options and are able to select a program that develops their individual strengths and gives them the opportunity and confidence to pursue sports at which they excel and enjoy.
Upon arrival at Mullauna College all students are allocated to a House – Bradman, Freeman, O’Neill or Rafter, and compete in these teams at the annual swimming and athletic carnivals. We aim for maximum participation and provide events which everyone can enjoy.
Staff involved in the Sport program have extensive expertise in a range of sporting fields, with many having played or coached at the local, state or national level.
