Careers & Pathways at Mullauna College

Effective careers and transition programs are key components of our College’s strategy to improve student engagement and increase the number of our students who complete their schooling with us, then continue into the University or TAFE program that they have planned for. Our students are provided with pathways counselling and programs from year 7 to help them to develop the knowledge and skills they need to manage their future career paths and make and implement informed choices about school and post school options.

The Careers Coordinator, Mr Nik Smith, is available to assist students with job applications, interview techniques, University and TAFE course information, prerequisite planning, subject selection advice and much more!

Year 7 & 8 Challenge Program

During Semester 2 our year 7 & 8 students participate in a number of Careers based activities to identify and establish interests in subject areas and link these to areas of employment. Students develop and update their Career Action Plans to enhance ideas and plan for their future both at school and beyond.

Year 9 My Career Insights Program

My Career Insights is a program for all Year 9 students in Victorian Government secondary schools which helps students discover, develop and drive their career planning. It is a unique opportunity for students to learn more about their strengths and abilities while exploring potential career options – giving them the confidence to start taking control of their future.

As part of the program, students complete a series of questionnaires and quizzes accessed through the Morrisby website. They then discuss their results with a Morrisby-trained Careers Consultant in a 30-minute interview.

Year 9 SkillZ@Mullauna Term 3

Our Year 9 students SkillZ@Mullauna Program dedicates Term 3 to careers education, preparation and planning. Students enhance their resume and cover letter skills, listen to speakers from many different industries, research possible tertiary courses and occupations after leaving school and tour many tertiary campuses to see in person tertiary education and life on campus - and much more!

Year 10 Work Experience Program

All Year 10 students participate in our Work Experience Program during term 2.

Work experience provides students with the opportunity to learn about the world of work by becoming part of it and observing through firsthand experience the issues and challenges faced by both employers and employees in today’s workforce.

Students are expected to contact potential employers to organise their own work experience. Some of the areas students may like to explore include office administration, design, education, engineering, entertainment, health, hospitality and sales.

We encourage you to support your child’s placement in an industry of their choice. Research has shown that work experience provides students with a valuable opportunity to connect to future employers for part time work and assists students in their consideration of future career options.

Careers Conversations Years 9 - 12

All years 9 & 10 students have discussions regarding their subject selections with a senior member of staff to ensure positive choices to success and enjoyment of future subjects with student interest and tertiary options part of the discussions.
