What is the Excel Program at Mullauna College?

Excel provides a specialised learning environment designed to meet the needs of high achieving students. The rigorous and challenging academic program provides students with an opportunity to work with like-minded students in a supportive and encouraging environment.

The Excel class is not an accelerated program; rather it allows students to progress with their school age peers whilst undertaking a challenging curriculum that enriches and extends them in the disciplines of English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography and Digital Technologies.

Students will remain with their Excel peers for three years from Year 7 to Year 9 and from Year 10 onwards they will be able to access a range of VCE/VET subjects, university subjects and a range of challenging electives but this will depend on the student’s continued high academic performance.

How are students selected for Excel?

The Year 7 Excel class will be selected from our total enrolled Year 7 cohort only.
We will first enrol our Year 7 students using the standard Department of Education process (DE enrolment process). We then shortlist students for our Excel class from this total cohort using information from the academic and wellbeing transition data gathered from primary schools and offer places accordingly. These students should have demonstrated the appropriate personal and interpersonal skills, and outstanding academic skills, to be considered for selection into Excel.  The successful students will be offered a place in the Year 7 Excel class via email to parents/carers.
